Save a friend, save yourself

Let’s say you were at lunch at one of our great restaurants here in Tucson, with a group of friends or your family, and suddenly, one of those friends just doesn’t look or sound right. Maybe she has a droopy mouth, or sudden inability to express herself or difficulty moving her hand or arm. There’s something you can do, that could save a life, and that’s remembering the possibility your friend could be having a stroke.

I heard a really good talk this weekend, about recognizing and treating stroke. The take-home message was how important it is to be prompt, and recognize signs of stroke, as there now are potentially effective treatments for stroke, but time is of the essence. The American Stroke Association, has some tips to what to look for in situations like what I described above. Click here for more information.
